For locals, the Playa Caleton is just another beach. For visitors, this beach is heaven on earth and paradisiac. After a cold El Presidente beer during lunch, I wiggle my toes in the luke warm sand. I feel like I must be in heaven here. At the other end, we observe some tourists chatting in German, French, Spanish and Italian or a combination of those languages.
Sometime later, in the afternoon, we tackle a gnarly bush trail over a headland of sharply eroded coral stone. We hike through the jungle and alongside small caves to the following beach. As we arrive at Playa Caleton it is deserted. We have the beach to ourselves.
Next morning as we finish breakfast, a friendly local fisherman in a blue shirt shows up at our home with awesome freshly caught snapper. He filets the fish in the kitchen and we slip it in our fridge before beelining it back to Playa Caleton. Around noon we hike back to the colorful beach shack at La Playita for having lunch. Then right back to Playa Caleton, which we, again, blissfully have to ourselves the rest of the day.
At sunset, we head back home for a candlelight dinner on the wooden deck of our villa.
This could be just a day near Playa Caleton, or lovers beach, in Las Galeras.
